Siemens’ National Day of STEM Includes New, Original Hands-on Activities, Career Videos and Live Chats with STEM Experts

Silver Spring, Md. (May 4, 2017) – Siemens Foundation and Discovery Education,  announced that the first ever Siemens’ National Day of STEM – a virtual initiative dedicated to delving into conversations about the STEM field  –  will be held on May 16, 2017, starting at 10:00 am ET.

Available at no cost, Siemens’ National Day of STEM will provide engaging career information for middle and high school students and facilitate LIVE interaction via social media between educators, Siemens Employees, and STEM professionals.  The event is an extension of the site that includes a K-12 online STEM experience with more than 130 elementary, middle school and high school resources designed to support STEM curriculum and instruction with digital content. Online materials emphasize the importance of STEM through standards-aligned, fun and engaging hands-on classroom activities and videos designed to support the development of students’ ability to investigate, question and understand how the world works within STEM principles.

Siemens’ National Day of STEM offers:

• Career Vignettes – new STEM career videos, created at Siemens’ Energy Hub in Charlotte, NC, provide students with insights into the fields of engineering and manufacturing and illuminate the benefits of hands-on learning and apprenticeship.

• Online Activities – new free, downloadable online activities for high school students in the areas of science, technology, and engineering add to the breadth of K-12 resources already available.

• LIVE STEM Chat – at 12:00 pm ET / 9:00 am PT on May 16, educators will have the opportunity to submit questions to Discovery Education STEM experts and Siemens employees that will be answered in real-time.

Additional interactive student activities can be found on the STEM Day site and filtered by grade level, category or career path, and explore topics spanning healthcare, engineering, IT, science, math, technology, energy, and manufacturing.  A Teacher Support Center also provides educators 5-minute prep videos, live demonstrations of activities and downloadable one-pagers for best practice and how-to guides.
