Highly engaging technology platform helps K-6 teachers support their students in overcoming skill gaps with differentiated instruction

PITTSBURGH, PA – April 20, 2021 – Carnegie Learning, a leader in artificial intelligence for education and formative assessment, announced today the acquisition of Zorbit’s Math, a supplemental math software solution and curriculum that uses game-based adaptive learning to help elementary students develop a deeper understanding and positive growth mindset towards math. With this acquisition, Carnegie Learning expands its portfolio of proven supplemental ed tech solutions to encompass all of K-12 math and reading.

Zorbit’s is an all-in-one math learning software as a service (“SaaS”) platform that helps students discover their love for learning math. With digital and offline tools and resources, formative assessment insights, and rich interactive support, Zorbit’s empowers teachers to craft lesson plans for exceptional math learning in class, at home, and anywhere in between. Zorbit’s Math Adventure encourages students to explore rich math tasks in the context of an exciting narrative. This play-based experience is supported by a library of hands-on teaching activities that are adaptable, engaging, and classroom-tested.

As students interact with Zorbit’s, the adaptive learning system collects and analyzes data to reveal critical insights for teachers, schools, and districts. Teachers can build assignments from recommendations based on student activity in Zorbit’s to help close skill gaps, giving each student a truly personalized experience.

Zorbit’s Math has been proven to directly impact student achievement in math. An independent research study showed that over the course of eight weeks, students using Zorbit’s saw numeracy development equal to that of one full year of natural development. Launched in 2014 and headquartered in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, Zorbit’s has rapidly become a favorite resource to students and teachers across Canada. This combination with Carnegie Learning will introduce Zorbit’s to a wider audience across the U.S. and provide Canadian customers with access to the full suite of Carnegie Learning resources.

Ed J. Martin, CEO of Zorbit’s Math, says, “We are extremely proud to be joining Carnegie Learning. I can think of no other company more perfectly aligned with our approach to empowering teachers, and our philosophy of building students’ conceptual understanding of math. Our primary/elementary math expertise and leadership in play-based learning, combined with Carnegie Learning’s middle and high school math expertise and leadership in artificial intelligence and formative assessment, make this a perfect fit.”

Proven Solutions to an Unprecedented Challenge

School districts need proven solutions like Zorbit’s Math to help their students overcome learning loss from the past year and accelerate learning. The American Rescue Plan funding provides support for evidence-based solutions to identify the academic needs of students, differentiate instruction accordingly, and monitor student progress. Carnegie Learning offers a number of supplemental solutions that meet these needs:

MATHiaFlex (grades 6-12) mirrors a human tutor with more complexity and precision than any other math software and gives teachers deep, ongoing insight into student learning in real time. MATHiaFlex uses sophisticated AI technology to adapt at a very detailed, skill-by-skill level, giving students personalized just-in-time feedback and contextual hints while assessing their knowledge every step of the way. The Standards Navigator tool shows teachers at a glance how proficient students are on any assigned standard, and lets them easily assign content aligned to that standard.

Fast ForWord (grades K-12) harnesses the science of reading to accelerate learning and reading growth for all students, whether they are below, at, or above grade level. By applying an adaptive 3-in-1 approach that simultaneously develops literacy, cognitive, and SEL skills, Fast ForWord helps all students achieve their full learning potential.

Zorbit’s Math is a powerful addition to this portfolio of supplemental solutions that offer differentiated, personalized learning experiences to support student growth and drive better outcomes.

Barry Malkin, CEO of Carnegie Learning, says, “We’re excited to continue to expand our offerings at a time when educators need them the most. This past year was extremely challenging for educators and students alike, and we’re here to support them in accelerating learning to get back on track. Zorbit’s Math is designed to give students the differentiated instruction they need to master key math skills, while keeping students truly engaged in their learning. It is a perfect fit for our mission of delivering high-quality, proven educational tools to drive the best learning possible, and we are excited to welcome Ed and the rest of his talented team to Carnegie Learning.”

Zorbit’s customers will continue to receive the world class support they have come to love and appreciate from the company, while Carnegie Learning customers can look forward to learning more about Zorbit’s.
